The Journey
Attention to detail is the key to success - it is a well-used cliche, and everyone knows it’s true.
One day after a visit to my barber and was going home. One detail got painfully clear to me, in all my years in the industry, academies, and on stage, was overlooked with the old phrase - it always been like this. I had accepted it and never thought I could solve this issue.
I have known that small hairs in the neck itches after a haircut in all my years.
A drop of water finding its way inside the cape is embarrassing for me and unpleasant for my client. In the worst case, I might get color residues on my clients’ clothes. On the other hand, I know most gentlemen leaving the salon want a shower the first thing after spending money looking great in their new fresh cut and shave. So I needed to solve this.
I spent two years finding the perfect shape and testing materials. The next step was finding the best factory to help me manufacture it.
Finally, I found the perfect factory, and now the real journey started. My knowledge of the material I wanted to use was way too low. The world of different silicone is a jungle, and I needed to learn about it. Classifications, stickiness, level of hardness, elasticity, making it recyclable, and more details were things to consider to make this product the best possible. Together with the engineers at the manufacturer, we started to build molds to create the perfect tool.
Finally, we had it all, the perfect silicone mix, the perfect shape and thickness, and the collar was born.
The journey and the new knowledge created a spark in me, and I already have new products in the testing process. But, to make something look simple and obvious, trust me, is once again back to basics.
Through education, practice, and the willingness of those who have the knowledge and share it, new great things will be created.
